Adding Members and Accessing Content

How to add members

This site uses a workflow that has been customized from Plone's default. It uses "groups" to enable access to "member content" and "private" content.

Adding Members

Per LTSC Policies and Procedures, currently active (paid) LTSC Members are allowed to access member's-only content. The LTSC website has been setup with member's-only folders and/or content for each study group. When a site user is created and added to the "plone group LTSC Members" group he/she has access to these member's-only folders and/or content.

All LTSC SEC members (working/study group chairs, chair, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary and information officer) have the rights to add members to the website (plone group/role="LTSC Admin")

To add a member:

  • Login (because you can read this page, you're already logged in!)
  • Go to "preferences" in the top navigation bar.

  • Go to "Users and Groups Adminsitration" in the left navigation column.

  • Add the new user. The LTSC website is configured to email the user directly with his/her password (so you don't have to make one up for him/her). The user will have 24 hours to login after receiving the password -- otherwise they can retrieve their password automatically.
  • Assign the user to the "LTSC Members" group. Make sure you are on the "User and Grups Administration" page, then select the "Groups" tab. Select "LTSC Members".
    users to this group".

Either search for or enter the user's name and then "Add selected groups and users to this group".

"Private" Member Content

To mark content for member's-only, you need to set it's state to "Member" by selecting "Member Content" from the change state drop down in the green action bar or by selecting the item in a folder view and also selecting change state and then changing the state to "Member Content".

"Private" SEC Content

To mark content for SEC member's-only, you need to set it's state to "Private" by selecting "Private" from the change state drop down in the green action bar or by selecting the item in a folder view and also selecting change state and then changing the state to "Private". "Private", SEC-only content, will show up as red in the left navigation column.
